Don't Skimp on Cabinets

The most expensive mistake homeowners make in a kitchen remodel is going with lesser-quality cabinets to save money. Cabinets are the bones of the kitchen. Cheap cabinets sag, warp, lose alignment at the doors and drawers, and start looking tired within five years. The savings disappear the first time you have to deal with them.

We work with two trusted cabinet sources: one local cabinetry partner we've worked with for over a decade, and one production source for budget-conscious projects where the homeowner wants something better than what's at the big box stores without paying full-custom prices.

Pricing

Kitchen remodels in Southern Utah typically run between $35,000 and $110,000, depending on size, cabinet selection, countertop material, appliance allowances, and whether the layout is changing.

A small to mid-size modern kitchen with new cabinets, quartz or granite countertops, and standard appliance choices generally starts around $30,000 to $35,000.

Refresh vs. Full Remodel

If you don't need new cabinets, a kitchen refresh (new countertops, updated backsplash, new lighting, new fixtures, and new appliances) can typically be done in two to three weeks.

A full kitchen remodel with new cabinets typically takes eight to ten weeks total. The reason is the supply chain: cabinets take roughly six weeks from order to delivery, and countertop fabricators won't template until the cabinets are installed. After cabinet install, countertops take another two weeks to template, fabricate, and install.

Countertop Materials

The two materials we install most are quartz and granite. Quartz has overtaken granite in popularity in the last several years, even though it's often the more expensive option of the two (which surprises a lot of homeowners, since quartz is the engineered material).

We can also work with solid surface, butcher block, and concrete countertops if that's the direction you want to go.

Cabinet Quality Matters More Than Anything

If you take one thing from this page, take this: spend on the cabinets. Skimp anywhere else first. Countertops can be replaced. Backsplashes can be redone. Floors can be swapped. But ripping out cabinets and starting over costs about the same as doing it right the first time. Don't let it get there.

Living in the House During the Remodel

Most kitchen remodels happen while the family is still living in the house. We mask off, tent off, and contain dust as much as possible, and we clean the work area every day. But there's no avoiding the fact that you'll be living in a construction zone for two months. We'll talk through realistic expectations before the work starts so you know what to plan for.
